Region

Region Turiec is a unique place, which is situated between two national parks, namely the national park Veľká Fatra and Malá Fatra. From the south, the region is closed by the Kremnické vrchy and Žiar mountains. The region also includes 34 protected landscape areas. At present, there are 59 marked hiking trails with a total length of 491.6 km. Among the most famous are the Blatnická and Gaderská valley in Veľká Fatra, known for its limestone and dolomite formations. Among the tourist destinations in the Lúčanská Mala Fatra on the Turčianska side are the peaks of Kľak, Veľká Lúka, Krížava, in the Kriváňská Mala Fatra are the Kľačianska Magura, Fatranský Kriváň or Chleb. Recently, the popularity of the Valčianska valley has been growing.

The region is rich in natural and mineral springs, including Budiš, Fatra and Kláštorná. You can tap mineral water directly from the spring in the village of Budiš, near Turčianske Teplice.

The spa town of Turčianske Teplice is also an important point on the tourist map. Here, tourists can mainly regenerate in the well-known spa, or they can also use the Aquapark and swimming pool Vieska. In Turčianske Teplice there are original historical spa buildings, which are undergoing gradual reconstruction and modernization. The spa park in Turčianske Teplice is also important for tourism.

Turiec together with Liptov are the regions with the highest number of cultural-historical monuments in the Slovak Republic. There are 274 registered monuments in the Martin district. The town of Martin is declared by the government as the Centre of National Culture of Slovaks. The territory of the region Turiec within Slovakia has the highest concentration of museums and galleries. Some of them are unique, such as the Firefighters' Museum in Martin, etc. The only technical monument located in the region - Turček Water Supply - is also worth mentioning.

There are several castle ruins in the region which can be a tourist destination. Sklabin Castle is managed by a civic association.
