Mikuláš Galanda Gallery

On July 13, 1979, the birthplace of Mikuláš Galanda was declared a national cultural monument. The premises of the house were adapted for exhibition purposes by the Turčianské galerie in Martin in 1987. On July 1, 2001, the birthplace of Mikuláš Galanda became the property of the town of Turčianske Teplice. The official opening of the House of Mikuláš Galanda took place on March 21, 2002 with the exhibition “The Legacy of Mikuláš Galanda for the 20th Century”.

The birthplace of the important Slovak painter, founder of modernity, graphic artist and illustrator Mikuláš Galanda is located in a beautiful environment, near the spa park, in the middle of a garden decorated with a sculpture called “Interview” by the author Pavel Tóth. On February 26, 2008, a permanent exhibition of Mikuláš Galanda was reopened on the ground floor. Visitors have the opportunity to see 34 reproductions from the pink and blue periods and one original painting called “Quarry”, which is in the original easel.
There are also examples of illustrations that Galanda has done for the books of writers and poets like Pavel Dobšinský, Fran Král, Jaroslav Zatloukal and Karel Hynek Mácha. Thanks to book illustrations he achieved international success – he won a silver medal at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1937. There are also personal items of the Galand family – birth and marriage certificate, photos of parents, wife and siblings, as well as family tree.
