Linen Sunday | Museum of the Slovak Village

It was a long journey from the flax seed to the finished garment. Find out how textiles were made in the past and how clothing was once cared for 11 August 2024 during the Flax Sunday event in the Museum of the Slovak Village.

 

During the all-day programme from 10.00 to 16.00. We will show you the processes by which linen was turned into linen. You will learn how flax was shaken and combed, how threads were spun and how it was woven on looms. We'll teach you what it looks like vretienko or weaver's boatwhat it is bark, quills, dreams or trlica and find out what they were used for.

 

Folklore group Podhradie from Podhradie He will introduce you to the neighbourly relations while working together in the farm, but also tell you the story of how the first sewing machine came to Podhradie. The folklorists will also show you how carpets were hemmed, rugs were hooked from cut rags, embroidered and sewn on a treadle loom.

 

Our guests - Folklore group Podšíp from Stankovian - they will introduce the procedures associated with washing and ironing textiles - ironing textiles with irons with different types of heating, as well as mangling towels on a table hand mangle.

 

Attractive non-traditional show of traditional clothing and its components from different parts of Slovakia will be presented by members of the Folklore ensemble Lysec from Bela-Dulice.

 

Throughout the day, there will be winning in the area of the Museum of the Slovak Village Podhradská music.

 

In the oil mill, you will learn about the further use of the linseed, from which the pressing was used to extract linseed oil, in the past widely used in the kitchen during the Lenten season.

 

For the youngest visitors will be prepared creative workshop with forgotten textile techniques. They will be able to make looms on looms, a "slipper", a board or on their fingers, weave a rug on table looms, try the wrist technique or felting sheep's wool.

 

Within the project Learn at the museum!, which is realized with the financial support of the city of Martin, the teacher of blueprint workshops Lucia Dovalová will introduce you to the secrets of blueprinting, the production of which you will also be able to try yourself. Together with her you will get acquainted with this special technique of dyeing and printing fabric - the procedures of printing patterns on fabric using a special covering mixture "papu" and the preparation of the dyeing indigo mixture "kypy".

 

The programme will also include demonstrations of traditional folk and artistic production associated with the sale. Traditional meals and refreshments for visitors will be offered tavern from Orava Polhora.

 

At 1.30 p.m. there will be ev. a. v. Divine services in the church of Rudno.
