Castles of Turiec | Ethnographical Museum in Martin
13. May 2023 @ 10:00 - 2. April 2024 @ 17:00
Do you know the castles in your area? Slovakia is a country dotted with medieval castles, of which often only ruins remain. There are several of them in the small area of the Turčianska basin, but compared to other regions, Turčianska's stone castles are less known.
The exhibition Castles Turca, realized with the financial support of the town of Martin, will bring visitors closer to the stone castles of our region and revive their former appearance. Through models, photographs, interesting information and period objects, you will find yourself at Znievský, Blatnický, Sklabinský and Sučany castles. The exhibition will run from 13 May 2023 to 2 April 2024.
The reconstructions of castles in the form of scale models, the author of which is Marek Both, archaeologist of the Slovak National Museum in Martin, are in scales 1:200 or 1:72. "Six models of Turčianske castles will be exhibited at the exhibition. I made the miniature models mainly from polystyrene, wood and paper. It took me about two months to make one model," explained the author.
In addition to castle reconstructions, the exhibition features archaeological finds from the Turca area in particular, such as handicrafts of everyday use, parts of horse harnesses, cold and fire weapons and other interesting artefacts. The exhibited objects are from the collections of the Slovak National Museum in Martin.
The exhibition Castles Turca will be open on the day of the pan-European event Night of Museums and Galleries, during which you can also enjoy another varied programme in the museum.
