Permanent exposition of Jozef Cíger Hronský - Martin

In the premises of the house of Jozef Cíger Hronský in Martin you will find a unique permanent exhibition dedicated to the life and work of this important Slovak writer, artist and cultural organizer. The tour will take you to the authentic environment of his home and provide a comprehensive view of the work of one of the main representatives of Slovak literature of the 20th century.

About Jozef Cíger Hronský

Jozef Cíger Hronský (1896-1960) was a teacher by education, from 1933 he worked as a secretary and later as an administrator of the Slovak Matica. During his tenure he was instrumental in founding the Neografia printing house.

After 1945, he went abroad, where he devoted himself intensively to painting and working in local cultural associations. In 1959 he founded the Foreign Slovak Matrix, which contributed to the maintenance of Slovak traditions abroad.

His extensive literary output significantly influenced the development of Slovak prose . His best known novels include:

  • Andreas Búr Master
  • The world on the route

What you can see in the exhibition:

  1. Panel exhibition - unique panels in the shape of an open book
  2. Period Photography - snapshots from childhood, family life and exile
  3. Personal relics - artefacts from the writer's estate
  4. Literary and art samples - including book publications and works of art
  5. Biographical documents - significant milestones in the life of J.C.Hronský
  6. 3D room and video presentations:
  • Documents on the life of J. C. Hronský
  • Interviews with his relatives
  • Karol Plicka's film "Following the Slovaks from New York to Mississippi" (silent film, 45 minutes)

Admission price list: 

  • Adults: 2,00 €
  • Students and children: 1,00 €
  • Group admission for schools:
    over 10 children + chaperone: 8,00 €
    over 20 children + chaperone: 16,00 € (capacity up to 35 persons)
  • Free: children up to 6 years of age, seniors over 62 years of age and holders of disability cards

Length of tour: 60 minutes, including the projection of the video film.

Do you like beautiful views? Chata pod Chlebom is the perfect place for a trip in every season! 🍃❄️ On sunny days you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramas - you will see not only Chleb and the Great Fatranský Kriváň, but also the Western Tatras and Veľký Choč. Directly in front of the chalet you can enjoy a magical view of the ridge of the Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra or Martinské hole. 🏔️

👉 Marking: first yellow, then green
⏱️ Time: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes

Chata pod Chlebom is an excellent starting point for ski mountaineering tours, which will be enjoyed by beginners and experienced ski mountaineers. The most popular destinations include:
⛷️ Veľký Fatranský Kriváň (1 709 m above sea level)
⛷️ Chleb (1 646 m)

From the ridge you can also go to other beautiful peaks:
🌟 Little Fatranský Kriváň (1 671 m above sea level)
🌟 Poludňový Grúň (1 459 m above sea level)
🌟 Stoh (1 607 m above sea level)

🧑‍🔬 Safety tip: Always check the avalanche danger status and current conditions on the Mountain Rescue Service website before hiking.

✨ Looking for the perfect weekend trip? ✨

Combine spectacular views, fresh air exercise and a gentle challenge! Join us on an adventure through the beautiful nature of Mala Fatra to the Vendovka hut. 🌲🏔️

🗺️ Start of route:
The trip starts in the Sučianska valley, near the Jarolím cottage settlement. From there, a blue hiking trail will take you through the stream and forests until you reach the crossroads of forest roads with a turn-off to Vendovka. Picturesque views, a pleasant climb and the smell of nature await you.

🔹 Cottage Vendovka:
This popular tourist stop offers a short rest area - although it is usually locked, the hallway is often accessible. You'll also find a spring here to refill your water. 🏞️

If you like, you can extend your hike and continue to Malý Kriváň.

📌 Information:
⏳ Duration: the tour takes about 3 hours (one way).
💧 Water and refreshments: don't forget to refill your water at the spring behind the Vendovka hut.
🏠 Accommodation: KST Sučany.
