Birthplace of Mikuláš Galanda - National Cultural Monument in Turčianske Teplice
The birthplace of Mikuláš Galanda, an important Slovak painter, graphic artist and illustrator, was declared on 13 July 1979 as national cultural monument. Since 1987 it has been used as an exhibition space, thanks to modifications carried out by the Turčianska Gallery in Martin. Later, on 1 July 2001, the ownership of the house passed into the hands of the town of Turčianske Teplice. The opening ceremony took place on 21 March 2002 with an exhibition "The Legacy of Mikuláš Galanda for the 20th Century".
Exposition in picturesque surroundings
The family house is located in a quiet environment, just a short walk from the spa park, in the middle of a garden decorated with a sculpture "Interview" by sculptor Pavel Tóth. Since 26 February 2008, the ground floor has been open to the permanent exhibition of Mikuláš Galanda's works. This exhibition features 34 reproductions from his iconic pink and blue period, along with an original painting "Quarry.", displayed in the original painting easel.
Unique collection of illustrations
Visitors can also admire examples of Galand's illustrations for books by well-known writers and poets, such as Pavol Dobšinský, Fraňo Kráľ, Jaroslav Zatloukal and Karel Hynek Mácha. Galand's book illustrations gained international success when they were awarded at the World exhibition in Paris.
