The history of Austria-Hungary comes alive in Necpaloch.
Municipal Museum and Notariate in Necpaloch is an exceptional place where history is combined with authentic stories. This unassuming but historically rich building, built almost 180 years ago, hides many precious exhibits that allow visitors to peer into the past and admire the treasures of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
The origin of the museum and the life of Štefan Reidl
The museum is housed in a house that was originally the home of the notary Štefan Reidl (1867 - 1908) from Necpal. Reidl, an important personality of his time, was not only a notary, but also a teacher and a passionate collector of Slovak folk songs. During his tenure, there were only five notariats in the Turiec region. The Notariat in Necpaloch has been preserved in a unique condition and the authenticity of its exposition transports visitors to the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The importance of the role of the notary in the historical context
The notary was then a municipal official elected by the local council, but his powers were much broader. His competences included the control of economic and political events in the municipality, which made the notariat an important institution. Visitors to the museum can see the authentic equipment of the notariat and imagine how the office functioned at that time.
About the museum and its founders
The museum was founded in 2009 by the family of Vladimír and Alžbeta Hanzlík, who wanted to preserve this precious piece of history for future generations. Thanks to their enthusiasm and perseverance, they managed to renovate the building and create an exhibition that links the local history of Necpál with the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. An important element of the exhibition is also a memorial plaque dedicated to Mrs. Alžbeta Hanzlíková, who played an important role in the development of nursing education in Czechoslovakia. This memorial plaque is located in the Stefanik Institute in Martin.
Opening ceremony and cultural significance
The official opening of the Municipal Museum and Notariate in Necpaloch took place on 17 July 2009 in the presence of distinguished guests including representatives of the Slovak Matrix, the Slovak National Party and the chairman of the Žilina Self-Governing Region. This festive event underlined the importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
