Roman Caatholic church of St. Ondrej – Sebeslavce

Mysterious church above Sebeslavci - hidden gem Turca

Above the road from Blatnice, under the Blatnický castle towards Folkušová, stands one of the most mysterious churches in Turci. In summer it is almost invisible because it is hidden by the shade of huge trees. In winter, however, when the trees lose their leaves, it is revealed in all its glory.

Its history dates back to the middle of the 12th century, making it one of the oldest sacral buildings in the region. The first church above the village of Sebeslavce until 1837 was a medieval single-nave church from the 13th century with a polygonal presbytery, but without a tower. After the disappearance of the village during the 18th century and the first third of the 19th century, the church fell into disrepair and its importance declined.

The current building is a hall classicist building with a rectangular end of the presbytery, without a tower. It was created by reconstruction using the remains of the original building at the initiative of Barons Ján and Juraj Révai. After extensive reconstruction, during which, among other things, the Gothic sanctuary and sacristy were demolished, only the original portal in the form of a broken arch has been preserved from the Gothic period. The church has smooth facades with thermal windows, the roof is hipped with a small bell tower.

The church above Sebeslavci is a silent witness to the history of Turca and a unique place for lovers of architecture and history.
