Slovak Libraries Week at the Slovak National Library
March 3 @ 8:00 a.m. - March 8 @ 4pm
The Slovak National Library has again this year prepared within the Slovak Libraries Week (3 - 8 March 2025) rich programme for all ages. The events will take place in the SNK headquarters building, the SNK Literary Museum and for those who would like to make a trip, we have also prepared a unique exhibition in the Aponius Library in Oponice.
Programme of the Week of Slovak Libraries in SNK:
📖 Exhibition "From Proglas to ypsilon" (Aponice Library in Oponice)
From Monday, 3 March, you can see a fascinating exhibition about the development of the Slovak language from Old Slovak to its modern form from the 19th century. At the exhibition you will see historical milestones of the language - Proglas, the Camaldolese Bible and the linguistic works of A. Bernolák, Ľ. Štúr and M. Hatthala.

🎨 [REVEALED] The Secret of Leonardo's Last Supper (4 March, 17:00 - 18:30, SNK headquarters building)
Academic painter Stano Lajda guides you through the secrets of one of the most famous paintings in history. We will discuss his latest book and admire facsimiles of Leonardo da Vinci's rare drawings and prints.
🔬 Popularization and educational lectures combined with examples of rare documents:
🔹 First glimpses of the Universe - How did our ancestors imagine the universe? Discover Aristotle's Opera Omnia and the medieval ideas of Giordano Bruno and Galileo Galilei.
🔹 Getting to know the world's capitals? - What did Paris, London or Vienna look like 500 years ago? Take a journey into the past with historical maps.
🔹 How is a book made? - From antiquity to the 19th century, including the rare Chronicle of John of Turca (1488), where the word "Slovak" (zlowacko) appears for the first time.
📚 National event "We can be heard" (5 March, Literary Museum of the Slovak National Library)

🕊 Guided tour of the National Cemetery: 'Where they sleep their eternal dream' (March 7, 10:00 and 16:00)
Take a tour of the National Cemetery and learn about the stories of important figures in our history.
