Folk culture of our ancestors through the eyes of young artists - this is the main motif of the project "Touches with folk culture". We invite you to the opening of its fifth year at the Ethnographic Museum in Martin on Thursday, 12 October 2023 at 16.00. The opening of the exhibition of student work will be combined with a fashion show.

The current edition is the fifth collaboration between the Slovak National Museum in Martin and the schools of art industry in Ružomberok and Trenčín. This year, the students worked with the theme Region-land-landscape. In the exhibited works, in accordance with their field of study, they looked at the assignment from the point of view of a young, creative and perceptive person. The combination of current trends and technology with Slovak folk culture is a kind of bridge to our traditions, land and history.

The Touches with Folk Culture project was established in 2007. After previous successful collaborations, the Slovak National Museum in Martin approached the School of Art Industry in Trenčín and the School of Art Industry in Ružomberok. The students were then able to become better acquainted with the collection objects in the museum and translate their inspiration for a detail or motif through their insight into textile design, graphics or, for example, animation. The first edition of the project, which took place in 2009, was based on the theme of folk clothing; for the second edition in 2012, the museum selected folk toys from its depositories for the students. In 2015, the theme was symbol and ornament, and the main motif four years ago was thread.
