NORTHERN ROUTE - BASIC

Route Description: The paved section of the route leads through the northern foothills of the Veľká Fatra (Greater Fatra mountain range) to the village of Krpeľany, after passing below the dam of one of the Váh Cascade power plants, the route’s dirt section continues along the Váh Canal to the village of Sučany, where you need to take the asphalt paved road leading along the hydroelectric power plant to Vrútky (urban district Kolónia Hviezda). In the village of Lipovec, it is possible to make a brief detour to another one of the Váh Cascade power plants. In Kolónia Hviezda we will take the forest road to the city of Martin’s Stráne urban district and from there we can go back to Martin or further by the “tank road” to Bystrička.

Route Description:

Unlike the basic route, you head from Krpeľany to Trusalová, where the ascent to the Chalet below the hill of Chleb starts—marked with yellow hiking signs. At the locality named Zajacová the trail turns right to the forest mountainside access road. The road rises approx. 900 m over a distance of 14 km.

Route Description:

Unlike the basic route, in the village of Turčianske Kľačany you need to start to follow the green hiking signs and later continue up the mountainside access road to Kľačianska Magura Chalet. The road rises approx. 700 m over a distance of 10 km.

Route Description:

It differs from the Basic Route in the detour leading from Vrútky (urban district of Kolónia Hviezda) up the asphalt paved road (blue cycle route) to the chalets at Martinské Hole in the elevation of 1250m above sea level. Good bikers may continue to the TV tower of Krížava (1456 m above sea level) on the ridge; in good weather conditions, the place offers views up to the Tatra peaks. The descent from Martinské Hole down a forest road (the green cycle route and at the same time also yellow hiking route) offers beautiful views of the northern part of the Turiec Basin.

Route Description:

The route is a combination of parts of two well-known cycle routes—Zniev Road and Turiec Cycle Route. It starts on Tank Road (a combination of asphalt and concrete) and the first of four observation towers on the route is right in the beginning. Then, it leads to Trnovo, from there comes a short forest descent to Valča and a traverse through Slovianska dolina valley to Kláštor pod Znievom. From there via the village of Socovce, a pass to the foot of the Greater Fatra mountains range at the Turiec Cycle Route and to the asphalt pavement of Cesta hrdinov SNP (The Path of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising); taking the aforementioned road, passing through picturesque villages with their peculiar architecture (Blatnica, Mošovce, …), you will get back to Martin.

Route Description:

The route is an “extension” of the Central Basic Route with the detour to the Gader Valley, containing remarkable gorges (the best known is the so-called Devil’s Gate) and Blatnica Castle.A forest road leading from the Castle connects cyclists back to the Basic Route. Another turn, in the village of Belá-Dulice, to Jasenská Valley will take you to a forest road, 7 km farther away, and after climbing it you will find yourself in the meadows above Turčianske Jaseno and Záborie, which provide unforgettable views of a part of the Turiec Basin.

Route Description:

This route is a shortening of the original route. From Kláštor pod Znievom, it does not continue to the foot of the Greater Fatra mountains range, but through the middle of the Turiec Basin. However, it provides wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and their foothills.

Route Description:

The route, intended for avid cyclists, connects the Turiec Cycle Route and Zniev Route. It exposes Turiec in its entirety. It starts in Vrútky, continues below the Lesser Fatra mountains range to Sučany and Turčianska Štiavnička. Subsequently, it leads along the tar road of Cesta hrdinov SNP (The Road of the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising) in the foot of the Greater Fatra to the spa town of Turčianske Teplice. This main road offers amazing views of the Turiec Basin surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Lesser and Greater Fatra, passes through picturesque villages (Blatnica, Mošovce, …). On the route, you can admire Sklabiňa Castle, typical manor houses and farmyards. The first half is more strenuous, includes steep ascents and sharp downhills. The second half, Zniev Route, is flatter, hugs the Turiec River.
